How to walk a labyrinth.

Hi Thriver!

I have many birthday rituals. I meditate. I set intentions. I make sure I see all my favorite people's eyeballs, either in person or on Facetime to ensure they are a part of my life for the following year because what we do on our birthday sets the tone for the rest of the year.

What you do and who you see on your birthday matter.

Got a birthday coming up?  Enjoy my birthday meditation here.

I also walk a labyrinth on my birthday.

I have walked countless labyrinths and at least a decade-full of birthday labyrinths.

I often walk the labyrinth near my home that has a gorgeous view of San Francisco but I have also gone to churches and sought out other beautiful labyrinths.

What is a labyrinth?

A labyrinth is a one directional pathway that is created in a way that balances both sides of your brain and helps you to still your thoughts and become more centered within yourself as you reach the center of the labyrinth.

Labyrinths are defined by the number of circuits found within the labyrinth. The number of pathway layers from the center to the edge of the labyrinth defines the number of circuits. The two main types of labyrinths are 7 circuit and 11 circuit. This here is a 7-circuit labyrinth.

Everything that happens during a labyrinth walk is a message for you. Take it all in -  the surroundings, the rocks on the ground, the animals you encounter.

All of it is guidance for your life.

Many years ago, I was having such imposter syndrome during a period of my life and I walked a labyrinth with the intention of healing my heart from this feeling. I really did not feel like I had much to offer or teach anyone at that time and that everyone already knew what I knew. So why put out anything?

When I waked the labyrinth, I asked for clarity around this pain I was experiencing.

I am not even kidding.

As I walked the labyrinth that day, a young girl called out to her friends and said. “Hey, did you see that mandala or something up there? That maze was so cool.”  It was in that moment I realized, there was so much I could teach her about this experience and about labyrinths. My imposter syndrome was cured and that teaching people about labyrinths was only the beginning.

It was an energetic shift that happened in one powerful moment.

The labyrinth had done its work.

There is so much insight and guidance that is offered by a labyrinth walk.

What would your labyrinth walk say to you?

If you would like to locate a labyrinth near you, check out the World-Wide Labyrinth Locator

If you're all cozy at home and don't want to leave, you can still experience the healing power of the labyrinth.  Join me on a walk together at my favorite labyrinth as I take you on a video walk through the Eaton Park Labyrinth.

Or you can print out a finger labyrinth and set intention in the same way and follow the labyrinth with your finger.

Labyrinths are conduits for healing and change and I hope you bask in their transformational power.
