How pour over coffee helps us live in the present moment

Hi Thriver!

In an effort to lower our consumption of microplastics, my hubby and I have jumped into the world of pour over coffee so that we no longer use our plastic coffee pot to brew our coffee.  Pour over coffee is the magical way of making coffee that requires patience, attention and a recognition that so many variables result in very different outcomes. The heat of the water changes the taste, the intervals of water pours and the material the filter is made of all change the coffee's outcome… but all the fuss is worth it.

The coffee we enjoy from our pour over process is so satisfying that we’ve started consuming a lot less coffee because one cup is that delicious and satiating.

What if this same process could be true about our daily life?

What if we paid such mindful attention to the details of our everyday life that every single day feels fulfilling and abundantly satisfying?

Life itself is its own form of this pour over coffee process.

Every day, we experience so many variables and make so many choices. Movies like Sliding Doors (one of my favorite movies!) is a great example of how different choices can lead us down different pathways in life and some choices are unavoidable.

When we are present to our choices though, just as we would our coffee, life feels more meaningful.

When I ignore the pour over coffee or get distracted in between water pouring intervals, the grounds solidify and the coffee does not taste as good.

The same could be said about living a present moment experience.

What details in your life have you been ignoring?  Or are you savoring every moment as if it was your last moment in the same way you may savor your final sip of delicious coffee- taking in the smell, the taste and every sensation?

Life changes often allow us to savor every moment, like a great cup of coffee.

What if we could bask in this heightened state of sensory absorption daily?

This is the what the present moment looks and feels like.  Living in the present moment is a full sensory experience.

When we take in a moment and smell, taste, see, touch and hear everything that is happening, we become connected to the moment and absorb all of its potential energy.

This sensory experience can begin with your morning cup of coffee, pour over or not.

Bask in your first drink of the day, hot or cold, and see how you can experience each sense and watch how this sets the tone for the rest of your day.

Lean into every single one of your senses and watch how much more present and meaningful life becomes for you.

Your mindfulness and present moment training begins here with your first sip of the day. Cheers to a beautiful day!
