How a blue pen got me into college

My daughter graduated from high school in June and is heading off to college in the Fall. It is truly unbelievable to me how quickly time flies.

Throughout her college application process, I reminded my daughter that a perfect plan was laid out for her and that she need not worry. Everything would all work out just as it is planned.

In fact, we came up with a code signal, blue pen, when I wanted to remind her that all was well and she would land at the school where she was meant to be.

You see, when I was applying to colleges, we had to type our college applications. I spent hours typing my applications on a typewriter. If you couldn’t type them, you were expected to use a black pen to fill out the application...especially to the schools you really wanted to attend.

As a junior in high school, I thought it would be awesome to go to USC. But then I learned how much it would cost to go to school there and decided we could not afford it.

It was as if the moment I decided I wasn’t going, I was placed on USC’s target list.

They sent me an application- I threw it away. They sent me a second application and I tossed it. Then they sent me another application and I put it to the side of my desk. A few weeks later, they sent me a book and an application.

So I decided and declared, "Ok I’ll just apply really fast but I am not typing this application!"

I couldn’t even find a black pen to use on my application. All I could find was a blue pen which was basically taboo at the time to fill out an application with anything other than a black pen.

Regardless, I filled out my application in bright blue pen... and the first acceptance letter I received was from USC.

I did, in fact, become a USC Trojan.

I met my husband there, began my entertainment marketing career there through internships only offered through my sorority and met my boss who became a bridesmaid and one of my very best friends. I have hosted corporate trainings for a sorority sister who is truly like a sister and have continued to help out and remain connected to many Trojan friends. We truly are the Trojan Family.

So many blessings came from this blue pen.

And yet this taboo blue pen didn't stop the Universe from delivering an incredible plan for my life. The plan for my life was already designed and a pen color choice was not going to stand in the way of it being delivered to me.

And yet so often, we think the smallest thing will alter the trajectory of our life.

What if we could walk through life with our blue pen? Walking through decisions and life chapters trusting and knowing the plan will work out perfectly.

Rather than feeling nervous, we bask in presence, connection and faith knowing everything will turn out for our highest good often exponentially better than we planned.

The blessed plan is always waiting for us.

What do you need to shift into a state of trust knowing life will always bless you?

Join me for this weeks meditation, The Universe has a perfect plan for you, and apply your own "blue pen" symbol to your life to begin creating this incredible shift within you too.

Much love,
Erin
