Are you a recovering People Pleaser too?
Hi Thriver!
It's true...I used to be a people pleaser in the worst way. I was the best friend to everyone. I called on their birthday, planned the perfect party, sent cards, and went above and beyond to be the perfect friend.
I was the perfect friend to everyone except to one person...myself.
I still pride myself on being a good friend but now make sure that those thoughtful actions come from a place of Divine overflow. I make sure that I nourish myself and give from a place that is connected and full of Divine presence.
Otherwise, what I give isn't very pretty.
Have you experienced a moment when someone gives to you when they are not in a state of overflow?
You both know it and it doesn't feel good for either one of you.
It doesn't feel good for them to give to you from this space because they're emptying their bucket and no one is fooling anyone. It doesn't feel good to receive from this place either.
Energy is felt and people-pleasing martyr energy ranks up there with one of the most painful experiences to be felt by all.
People-pleasing stems from a place of lack of self-love. We believe we must please everyone around us to be loved.
The secret here though is that as you begin to love yourself more and allow this beautiful Divine love in, your desire to people-please reduces because you know that others simply need to reach this same energetic state for themselves as well.
You cannot do that for them.
I used to cast the net out wide to be the perfect friend to everyone, which left me exhausted and with friendships that were surface and more often than not, less fulfilling.
That was also the same relationship I had with myself back in the day.
Over the last several decades, I've established a deeper, more connected, and authentic relationship with myself and this energetic state has, in turn, attracted the same type of friendships in my life.
Those that are not the match to this authentic energy have fallen away, leaving me with even more energy to nourish the relationships I desire to invest in.
This brings me to this week's podcast topic on the heart chakra.
In Sanskrit, the heart chakra is termed anahata which translates to feeling unhurt, unstuck, unbeaten.
Can you imagine what this emotional state feels like?
It looks a lot like first falling in love.
Have you ever noticed at the beginning of a relationship or the depiction of any new relationship in the movies what happens?
The birds are singing, the newly in love person is skipping down the street and people are handing them flowers and coffee.
Everything is joyful.
This is what a balanced heart chakra feels like!
This free and expansive love exists beyond the place we have been hurt, beaten down, and feel stuck.
Using the proper tools and techniques, you can reach this place regardless of what has happened to you.
In this place, you no longer feel the need to have resentment and attachment to things being a certain way and you no longer feel the need to people-please.
You know your worth and you love yourself for it.
It’s easy to live from this place when everything has gone well in your relationships but can you remain unstuck and unattached when things don’t go your way?
This is why we do the work.
So you can step off the emotional roller coaster and maintain your peace and a life full of love and connection.
